OK, I did my homework (at least part of it anyway...  :) and did read 
alsamixer man page.
I even ran it! 

The question now (and again, I have to do some more "research") is whether I 
can have several simultaneous inputs on a single sound card.
My plan is to use one sound card for each radio.  I capture the mike over 
the mike (simple, isn't it?  :) and the speaker using analog input.
I can then sort the conversation out using file times because I will never 
get both inputs at he same time (the mike kills the speaker)
Please don't think that I am expecting you to sort out the issue for me, all 
I expect is a quick and dirty "yes, it is possible" or "no, don't even 
bother with it" so I can plan my next move.  A "no, I don't have a clue" 
would be also appreciated, even though it still leaves me at square one.
