Sounds of Silence, Part II

I have additional info. 
I still seem to have an encoding issue. Amarok shows
a strange bitrate (14387653 kbs) or a strange song length (36504:43:12)
I tried changing the encoding from WAV to AIFF, but the change causes Amarok
to crash when playing the file. I also tried changing to ima-adpcm compression.
I still have not heard any audio on any recording. I still hear the radio
clearly from the left channel when listening live. Any thoughts or suggestions
to try ?

Are there combinations of file format and compression
that "go together" ? 
What is the range for amplifier ?
Would I be better off pulling the audio from the "data"
port of the radio, instead of the external speaker ?
Would I be better off using the mic instead of the
line-in ?

I have discovered that the software does not seem to
look past a blank line in the .conf file.
